MARION — Architectural projects brought architect and store owner Anthi Frangiadis to Marion seven years ago, and now the evolving nature of her store of art wares will take her to New Bedford.

“I have two businesses, really, the architectural business and the shop, and I was working on more and more projects in Marion,” Frangiadis said.

She has enjoyed the community in Marion, but has also watched as New Bedford has increasingly invested in its art businesses.

“The shop business is evolving, and I love what the city of New Bedford is doing with art. It’s a good alignment of art and culture that would allow the shop to expand by putting it in front of a lot more people.”

The move should not impact her work with a variety of local artists, as she explained that what she calls “local” is really more like regional art.

“A lot of the artists I feature are from New Bedford. Many of the artisans I work with are from the South Coast or Buzzards Bay region, and New Bedford is such a hub there. For artists, having more eyes on their work is beneficial.”

Frangiadis is keeping quiet on the exact location of her new shop in New Bedford, beyond mentioning that it is “downtown.” She plans to reveal the exact location of her shop at a Valentine’s Day trunk show she will host at her Marion shop to feature Brenda Morrison of Wareham and Janice Kissinger of Dartmouth.

The show will be held on Feb. 9 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a snow and ice date of Feb. 10 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

And though Frangiadis’ evolving business ambitions will bring her away from the tri-town, “I would like to stay involved in Marion,” she said. 

The last day of the Drawing Room will be open in Marion is Feb. 28, though it may close for about a week before to begin the moving process. Frangiadis plans to open in New Bedford promptly on March 1.
