Drum show comes to Mattapoisett

Aug 4, 2019

MATTAPOISETT —For anyone who’s ever wondered how to drum up support for a new drum show, it turns out that it’s quite simple. Provide the space, a few drums, and the drummers will come.

“We all have a lot of equipment and like to talk about it,” said Neil Sylvia of Dartmouth’s Symphony Music Shop, which hosted the Aug. 4 show.

He called the show “a social event” and said that the drummers at the shop who organized it “don’t worry about the commerce of it.”

Though Sylvia’s shop is in Dartmouth he said the business was actually returning to its roots by holding the drum event a few towns over.

“The Symphony Shop started in Mattapoisett. We have a long history here,” Sylvia said.

Sylvia said the show was for “local manufacturers and other enthusiasts,” with Calderwood Percussion and Wail City Percussion in attendance.

The event was more of a success than the organizers expected, with over 100 attendees.

Though Sylvia didn’t know if the event would become an annual one, he thought the shop would certainly hold another drum show after Sunday’s success.
