Elderly Rochester man struck by car debris in Route 195 crash

NEW BEDFORD — A 69 year old Rochester man has sustained life threatening injuries after he was hit by debris from a car while driving on Route 195 at around 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 6. The identity of the man has not been released by police

Just before 4:30 p.m., a 2003 Ford Pick-up was traveling Westbound on Route 195 in New Bedford when it had mechanical problems that sent debris into oncoming traffic on the Eastbound side of Route 195 . A Rochester man driving a 2011 Mazda Tribute was struck by debris coming through the windshield. The Mazda continued down the road before striking the median barrier. 

The driver was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with serious life threatening injuries. 

No charges have been filed at this time. 

The crash remains under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police. East bound lanes were closed for the removal of the vehicle at 6:50 p.m. All lanes were reopened at approximately 7:45 p.m.
