Electricity aggregation plan in the works for Mattapoisett

A plan is in the works that may let residents reduce their electricity bill.
A number of towns across the state are part of an electric aggregation plan through Good Energy that would allow them to negotiate rates as an entity.
With towns including Acushnet, Norton, Freetown and Fairhaven among many others, 565,000 people stand to benefit, Town Administration Mike Gagne said at Tuesday’s Selectmen meeting.
The Department of Public Utilities and Massachusetts Attorney General must sign off on the energy aggregation plan.
If approved, it will be optional for residents.
“The AG believes strongly in the issue of aggregating consumer savings and feel that’s going to go very well,” said Gagne.
He estimates the process could take about six months.
