Enjoy the winter season with Buzzards Bay Coalition events

MATTAPOISETT — Don’t let the cold weather keep you from going outside. The Buzzards Bay Coalition has a number of outdoor events and activities lined up this season. 

On Sunday, Feb. 5 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. take a furry friend to join OutHounds Adventure and Training for a romp at the Bogs, 141 Acushnet Road, Mattapoisett. Dogs must be leashed, under voice command and picked up after. 

Then on Wednesday, Feb. 8 the Coalition is holding an “Itty Bitty Story Walk” at the Tinkhamtown Woodlands, 29 Long Plain Road, Mattapoisett, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Join the Coalition with children ages 5 and under for a guided storywalk reading “The Snowy Day” by Ezra Jack Keats which follows Peter as they explore snow in all its glory.

Take part in a “global treasure hunt” on Saturday, Feb. 11 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. with “Intro to Geocaching,” a workshop hosted by the Buzzards Bay Coalition at the Bogs, 141 Acushnet Road, Mattapoisett. Geocaching is an activity that involves searching for hidden caches in different places around the world. 

Take a break from the busy world and take a hike with the Buzzards Bay Coalition at Tripps Mill, Acushnet Road, Mattapoisett, on Thursday, Feb.16 from 1 to 2 p.m.

On Sunday, Feb. 19 the Buzzards Bay Coalition will host a trail run/walk from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Bogs, 141 Acushnet Road, Mattapoisett. Meet at the Bogs parking lot at 8:45 a.m. There are no facilities on site. There will be a group that walks and a group that runs.

Learn to like lichen during an informative hike on Sunday, Feb. 26 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Shaw Farm Trail, 94 Brandt Island Road, Mattapoisett. Expert Tom Walker will enlighten participants about lichens. They cover rocks, trees, and even bones. Use this opportunity to get to know them even better.
