Environmental fair focuses on water

The annual Environmental Fair at Center School was a flurry of excitement as kids came to the gym to show off their projects.

This year, classes focused on water. Their projects included the importance of keeping oceans and rivers clean, the water cycle and how water is filtered.

"We made posters to conserve water and why it is important," explained third grader Ben Giumetti, a member of Mrs. Potter's class.

In an essay titled "Conserve Our Water!" Ben wrote, "There's not an endless supply of water in the world, so if we don't learn how to conserve water, all the water in the world will be gone."

In addition to the students' projects on display, the Department of Environmental Protection was on hand to show kids how worms turn kitchen waste and newspaper into soil. Kids got their turn with a trowel to search for live worms in a box of compost.
