Exercise, social opportunities at Mattapoisett Council on Aging
The Mattapoisett Council on Aging hosts the follow events weekly. The senior center is located at 17 Barstow St. For more information, call 508-758-4110.
Exercise classes:
Senior belly dancing, Mondays at 1:30 p.m. Cost: $3
This new class is open to people of all shapes, ages, and sizes. Belly dancing will help improve posture, balance, and strength. All moves are low-impact.
Line dancing, Fridays at 1 p.m. Cost: $2
Beginners are welcome to join the weekly line dancing classes.
Qi Gong, Mondays at 10 a.m. Cost: free
Gentle movements, breathing techniques, and meditation are used to cleanse, strengthen, and circulate life energy.
Strength and Balance. Mondays and Wednesdays at 12 p.m. Cost: free
This class is recommended for those who have to move, but have not exercised in a while.
Cardio Fit. Wednesdays at 10 a.m. Cost: free
An aerobic and strength training exercise class with low-moderate intensity that incorporates cardio, strength, and core work.
Yoga. Tuesdays and Fridays at 8:45 a.m. Cost: $3
This class is a sport yoga, not meditative. It is designed to increase mobility, strength, and balance.
Social events:
The Council on Aging has several weekly social events including knitting on Mondays at 10 a.m., Scrabble on Mondays at 1 p.m., Bingo on Wednesdays at 1 p.m., Mah Jong on Wednesdays at 1:15 p.m., and Bridge on Thursdays at 9 a.m.
