Fall fitness classes for kids

Mattapoisett Recreation has announced the following fitness courses for kids coming up this fall. More information and registration can be found at www.mattrec.net.

Fitness, fun and games: Ages 3 to 5, Tuesdays 4:15 to 5 p.m.
Lead by instructor Lynda Jacobvitz, this class caters to young, active kids who enjoy making new friends. Jacobvitz will help kids explore fitness, creative movement and yoga through music, games and storytelling. Props such as hoops, parachutes, tunnels and puppets will be used to stimulate imagination and encourage movement.

This course will run for eight weeks from Sept. 22 to Nov. 10 at Center School gym and costs $80.

Yoga: Ages 6 to 10, Tuesday 3 to 4 p.m.
Certified yoga instructor Lynda Jacobvitz will teach kids age appropriate yoga poses, basic stretching exercises and creative movement to promote strength, flexibility and coordination. Breathing and visualization techniques will teach kids how to focus, relax, develop self control and improve concentration. This eight-week session runs from Sept. 22 to Nov. 10 and costs $80. The course will take place at the Center School gym.

Bay State Gymnastics Academy: Ages 5 and up, Fridays 3:15 to 4:15 p.m.; 5:15 to 6:15 p.m.
This eight week session, from Sept. 11 to Nov. 6, for gymnastics and/or tumbling at Old Hammondtown School will have classes for beginners and those who have experience. Qualified instructors will work individually with each gymnast on all four gymnastic events: floor tumbling, balance beam, bars and vaulting.

Tumbling classes are designed for any gymnast or cheerleader interested in working solely on their floor tumbling skills. The cost for each session is $140. There will be no class Oct. 23.
