Fall programs at the Marion Natural History Museum
It’s nearly time for school, and the Marion Natural History Museum has many new fall/winter 2015 after school programs scheduled.
Netting program, Sept. 16
While the water’s still warm kids will collect animals to keep through winter. The group will meet at the Marion Harbormaster’s office to discuss local fish and marine invertebrates. Using the museum’s seining net, the group will explore the shore. Plan to get wet and wear beach shoes.
Bird Migrations, Sept. 30
Justin and Jess Barrett of the Nasketucket Bird Club will discuss the migrations of local birds. Photos and some of the birds in the museum’s collection will be examined.
Bird Island trip, Oct. 7
The Marion Harbormaster will lead a trip to Bird Island weather permitting. Register soon to secure your child a spot as space is limited. The program starts at 2 p.m. Meet at the Marion Harbormaster’s office.
Soil program, Oct. 21
Take a look at the soil under your feet with Natural Resource Conservation Service scientist Maggie Payne. The museum’s soil tunnel will be used for experimenting so plan to get dirty.
Fall foliage, Oct. 28
Explore the changing colors of fall with artist and naturalist Tricia Cassady. The group will examine the colors of fall in and around Marion, and use watercolors to develop artwork expressing these colors.
Cost for all programs is $6 for members and $8 for nonmembers. All programs start at 3:30 a.m. unless otherwise noted. To register and pay for a program, visit www.marionmuseum.org.
