Firmino M. Gomes, 73, of Mattapoisett died April 27 at home after a brief illness.

He was the husband of Aurisia C. (Cruz) Gomes.

Born and raised in Viade, Portugal, the son of the late Firmino and Miguelina (Moura) Gomes, he lived in Mattapoisett for the last 43 years.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Edward Gomes and his wife Sarah of New Bedford; six sisters, Maria Gomes Esteves, Rosa Gomes Afonso, Ana Gomes Braz, Celestina Gomes Esteves, Hilda Gomes Abreu and Arminda Moura Gomes; two grandchildren, Paige Gomes and Hannah Gomes; and several nieces and nephews.
