First covid cases reported at Old Hammondtown, ORRHS

Nov 2, 2020

MATTAPOISETT — Old Rochester Regional High School and Old Hammondtown Elementary School both reported new positive covid cases according to a press release from the Old Rochester Regional School District on Nov. 2.

Contact tracing has thus far identified one close contact related to the district. Officials did not specify to which case the close contact is attributed.

Both individuals are self-isolating in accordance with Massachusetts Department of Public Health and Center for Disease Control protocol.

Both individuals who tested positive have not been in school since Oct. 23. No further information about the positive cases was made available.

These are the sixth and seventh cases in the district since schools reopened on Sept. 16, and the first cases reported at Old Hammondtown and ORRHS.

All schools will continue with their normal schedules on Wednesday, Nov. 4 (schools are closed for teacher professional development day on Nov. 3) including Old Hammondtown and ORRHS, at the recommendation of the Mattapoisett Board of Health. All schools will continue to be cleaned daily and as needed.

Both schools are located in Mattapoisett, which returned to a “yellow” designation by the state on Oct. 29 after spending a week designated as a “red,” or high-risk community.

The district urges parents to keep their children home from school and get tested for covid if them or their child are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, such as a fever, chills, respiratory
illness, aches or change in taste and smell.
