The Fourth of July fireworks returned to Marion after a one year hiatus due to lack of funding.

The community rallied earlier this year to support the Marion Fireworks Committee's Twenty from Many Campaign – an effort to compel residents and visitors to donate $20 to the cause in order to raise the $40,000 needed to put on the show. With a $10,000 donation from Tabor Academy and many donations of varying sizes, the campaign reached its goal with a few days to spare to its extended deadline.

People came out in droves to Silvershell Beach on Sunday night to get food from vendors, listen to music from the Marion Town Band and enjoy the fireworks on a warm, summer night.

Lt. John Garcia said the Marion Police Department estimates about 6,000 people were in attendance.

"And it was a pretty uneventful night for an event of that size," he said. "So we're happy."
