Fun and games offered at Silvershell Beach Program

Jul 24, 2014

New activities and familiar faces greeted the kids attending the Silvershell Summer Program this year.

Now in its fourth year, the Marion Recreation Department program offers swimming lessons, arts and crafts, games, sports and more for children in Marion and surrounding towns.

Program Director Donna Hemphill said kids are enjoying new activities, such as weekly field trips, and the camp. With a seasoned staff of counselors, the program has only gotten better through the years she said.

“Our counselors are awesome. We have 10 all together and they are all returning from last year,” Hemphill said. “Many have been here for all three summers and one has been on for four years.”

The number of kids attending has also increased. During week four of the eight-week program, all of the spots were filled.

“Our numbers are up compared to last year,” Hemphill said, adding that anyone interesting in signing their child up should register soon.

There are three weeks left in the program. The week of July 28 the kids will visit the Cape Cod Inflatable Park. The final two weeks the kids will ice skate at Gallo Arena and visit the New England Aquarium, respectively.

The program operates Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with an early drop-off time of 8 a.m. and a late pick-up available at 5 p.m. for an additional $5 fee.

Aug. 11 through 15 is the final week. Registration forms are available at Silvershell Beach, the Marion Town House or online at the recreation department’s website www.marionrecreation.com.

To register, complete the form and make a check payable to Marion Recreation. Return the forms to the department, located at 2 Spring St., Marion.
