Garden Club of Buzzards Bay offers grants for South Coast communities
The Garden Club of Buzzards Bay invites community groups to apply for funding for small or medium size projects they are undertaking in the coming months that will benefit the environment, conservation or horticulture in their communities.
Since 2003 the GCBB’s Grants Program has disbursed approximately $40,000 to community projects along the South Coast region with amounts ranging from $125 to $3,000. Since its founding in 1930, the group has funded planting cherry trees at Buttonwood Park, and elm trees in South Dartmouth and New Bedford, a compost program for the Dartmouth Middle School, foundation plantings at Acushnet Council on Aging and other projects.
The various community groups soliciting the club for awards have supported civic beautification, conservation, sustainable agriculture and scholarships for conservation, horticulture or landscape design with the average amount allocated in the $250 to $500 range.
Funding for these grants comes from the club’s annual plant sale in May and a summer trunk show. The mission of the GCBB is to stimulate the knowledge and love of gardening through education in various formats. The grants program is the club’s way of giving back to its local community and supporting their efforts.
The deadline for application is Feb. 8. Notifications will be made by April 30.
