Gateway Youth Hockey suffers setbacks, claims wins
The Gateway Youth Hockey team suffered a few ups and downs over the week, but also saw key plays by local players.
Squirts 1
In the first of three games on the weekend, the Ice Wolves won their second game, beating Braintree 6-2. Kaleb Riggle earned a hat trick with four goals and an assist. John Rodrigues led the way with three assists.
On Sunday, the Ice Wolves continued their dominance of the Yankee Conference with their 11th win of the season, beating Gateway Youth Hockey USA 9-4. Bryan Gallagher led the scoring with four goals and Kaleb Riggle with three goals.
Chris Gauvin got the win, saving seven shots, including a highlight reel save, diving across the crease. The win moved the Ice Wolves to 11-4 on the season.
PeeWees
Just days after Halloween, the Lower Cape Coyote (Fancy) team defeated the Gateway Youth Hockey Pee Wee team. The Pee Wee lost the game 6-2. Gateway goalies were Steven Strachan and Marion resident Zack Pateakos. Gateway goal scorers were Nick Snow and Zack Lovendale.
Bantams
The Gateway Bantams finally broke their losing streak Saturday night defeating Pembroke by the score of 5-1. Doug Breault scored two goals, Brady Smith scored two goals and Mat St. John had one goal. Will Paling, Chad Lavoie, and Sean Kelso each had one assist. Goaltenders Tegan Ande and Chase Cunningham were the goalies.
