Gladiator hockey teams continue winning ways
The Gateway Gladiator Youth Hockey teams continue their strong seasons, with the Peewees winning three games over the past two weekends, and the Bantams making it to the semi-final game in the Goblet Tournament while playing up a division.
On Sunday, Nov. 20, the team beat the Coastal Stars 6-0. Matthew Paling scored four goals, and Ty Rebeiro and Nathan Ribeiro each added one. Goaltender Ryker King secured the shut out.
On Saturday, the team beat Duxbury 5-1. This time, it was Ty Rebeiro who scored four goals. The fifth goal was added by Paling.
To remain undefeated over the Thanksgiving weekend, the Peewees beat the Seahawks 7-1. Paling scored a hat trick, Rebeiro scored twice, Ribeiro scored once and Joe Urnek added the final goal.
The Bantam team traveled to Foxboro over the weekend for the Goblet Tournament. The team played up a division, and lost the first game to the Walpole Express. However, they bounced back and beat Franklin 8-5, and then played and beat the Ice Cats 5-2. The Gladiators faced Walpole again in the semi-final game, dropping the game 4-2. Leading the way in the tournament on offense was Quirino doCanto, who scored a total of 12 goals, Tyler Lovendale who scored twice, and Robert Malone, Jack Martins and Christian Araujo who all scored once. Also adding a goal, for his first of the season, was Mike Parker. Goaltender Alex DeMarco faced 164 shots, and saved 149 of them over the four games.
