Habitat Home & Garden Show debuts in new location
The Buzzards Bay Area Habitat for Humanity Home & Garden Show returned to the tri-town for its third year on Saturday, this time just down the road from its original location at Tabor Academy hockey rink.
Held in the Old Rochester Regional cafeteria, Habitat President Robin Ragle-Davis said the location worked out well as it coincided with the school's spring vacation.
Vendors from an array of companies and organizations set up booths in the cafeteria, including a number of local banks, home improvement companies and eateries. Proceeds from the booth sales, raffles and donations to the free event, all went towards Habitat's work on the South Coast to build and renovate homes for low income families.
The drizzly day seemed to keep some visitors away, and several signs hung on the school fence weeks ago suddenly went missing Saturday morning, which may have affected traffic to the event.
Ragle-Davis said their "sudden disappearance" may have been a misunderstanding, and considered the home and garden show a success.
"This venue worked out really well," said Ragle-Davis. "We've got fabulous vendors. It's been a wonderful day."
Grace Knox joined the event for the first time this year, with her Mattapoisett-based business, DG Service Company, a heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration provider.
"I think it's a very worthwhile organization," Knox said of Habitat. "We're a great community for Habitat for Humanity."
The organization is hoping to break ground on its first house in Marion soon and also acquired its first property in Rochester late last year.
