Hearing to be held regarding Coast Guard buoys

Jul 20, 2016

Residents will be able to voice their opinions about the proposed removal of several navigational aids in the harbor around Labor Day.

Last month Harbormaster Jill Simmons, with support from several town committees, submitted a letter to the Coast Guard requesting another look at some of the 43 buoys scheduled to be removed in the area, four of which are in Mattapoisett Harbor.

In June, Selectmen said they were concerned, in particular, about buoys at Angelica Point and Snow Rock.

The town also requested a hearing with officials to discuss the issue. Town Administrator Mike Gagne said it would likely be held at the high school just before or after Labor Day.
