Historical research at the Mattapoisett Land Trust

Mar 8, 2021

MATTAPOISETT — On-site historical research is coming to the Mattapoisett Land Trust.

The Land Trust and “History Hunter” Dean Withrow have reached agreement to conduct historical research at some of the trust’s properties, according to a March 7 press release.

Withrow will use a specialized metal detector in an effort locate historically significant items, and will use careful techniques to remove what is found.

Once cleaned and examined, all of the items will be given to the Land Trust for safekeeping and display.

Ground conditions at the trust’s properties will be fully restored, so that no sign of excavation remains.

While Winthrow will be allowed to use metal detectors on the properties selected for research, metal detectors will not be allowed for use by visitors of the trust’s properties.
