Historical society summer exhibit

Jun 23, 2014

The Mattapoisett Historical Society will open for the season on July 2 at 1 p.m. The Mattapoisett Historical Society’s special summer exhibit, “Mattapoisett’s Finest: Fire and Police,” will feature the history and community contributions of these two departments. The exhibit celebrates what these men and women have done for the town over the past 157 years.

The permanent exhibit has artifacts from Mattapoisett’s whaling days, fine furniture, antique toys and artifacts from the town’s agricultural past. The museum is open Wednesday through Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m., closed July 4. Admission is free for members, $5 for adults and $2 for children 6-12 (under 6 free.)

The Mattapoisett Historical Society will offer a variety of programs for both children and adults this summer. Visit www.mattapoisetthistoricalsociety.org to view the calendar of events, or call 508-758-2844 for more information. The Historical Society will also bring back the Walking Tour of the Waterfront every first and third Saturday of the month. The tour will leave at 2 p.m. from the Mattapoisett Historical Society and will explore the town and its role in building whalers for Nantucket and New Bedford. The tour is free with museum admission.
