'Holiday House Tour and Tea' returns Dec. 10

Nov 23, 2011

The Sippican Woman’s Club "Holiday House Tour and Tea" returns for its 25th year on Saturday, Dec. 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The tour begins at the club’s Handy’s Tavern, 152 Front Street in Marion.

Tickets are $18 in advance, available in Marion at Serendipity, The Book Stall, and The Marion General  Store.

In Mattapoisett, tickets may be purchased at Isabelle’s in The Ropewalk shops on Route 6.

On the day of the tour, tickets can be purchased for $22 at the Coldwell Banker Real Estate office, next to Handy’s Tavern.

The theme this year is “Tropical Christmas”.  The tavern has been transformed by members of the club into a tropical oasis with Christmas decorations.

From the tavern, participants will proceed to five homes in Marion, each unique and decorated for the holidays in New England.  Two of the homes being visited in the village were built in the 19th century. One was part of the underground railroad.

The other was rented by Richard Harding Davis to use as a club where the men in town could meet.

The other three homes are fairly new, and are special for their views of the water.

There is also the elegant  tea at St. Gabriel’s, where one can enjoy fresh baked goodies and have a chance to warm up.

St. Gabriel’s is located at the corner of Front Street and South Street . Tea will be served from 2 pm to 4 pm by Sippican Woman’s Club members.

Proceeds from the Holliday House Tour are used for annual scholarship awards to area students. Last year over $13,000 was distributed to graduating seniors and college students.
