Incumbent wins Board of Health position, voters pass ballot question
The quiet Mattapoisett election season has passed with little fanfare.
The only contested race was for a seat on the Board of Health between incumbent Carmelo Nicolosi and George Randall. Nicolosi will keep his seat, has he received 366 votes to Randall’s 77.
The Mattapoisett School Committee will welcome a new member, as Carole Clifford received 55 write-in votes. The other seat will be filled by incumbent Charles Rider, who received 291 votes.
Voters also approved the only ballot question, 236-101.
The ballot question allows for a debt exclusion to pay for road upgrades, after voter at Town Meeting approved $500,000 for repairs.
The debt exclusion is a temporary tax increase above Proposition 2 1/2. Due to debt that is retiring this year, the town will not see a rise in tax payments as a result of the question. T
