Mattapoisett’s Jillian Zucco was crowned Miss South Coast 2016 on Saturday night earning a $500 scholarship and the opportunity to compete in the Miss Massachusetts Pageant this July.

“Well this weekend was a whirlwind!” Zucco posted to her Facebook page following the win. “I’m so grateful and excited to have the title!”

Zucco wasted no time in performing duties for her new role.

On Sunday, Zucco's first full day as titleholder, she participated in a welcome home brunch for the current Miss Massachusetts, Meagan Fuller, who competed in the Miss America Pageant last month. Later in the day, Zucco sang at the Somerset Musictown Festival.

Zucco, a nursing student at UMass Dartmouth, earned the title of Miss Middleboro last year. She was also the first runner-up at the 2015 Miss Massachusetts Scholarship Pageant.

This year will mark Zucco’s fourth competing in the statewide pageant. In the previous three years she finished as a top 10 finalist. Previously, Zucco had been crowned Miss Fall River and Miss New Bedford.

She is a graduate of Old Rochester Regional High School.

In addition to Zucco, 11 other contestants brought a variety of talent and poise to the Music Hall stage for two separate beauty competitions.

Eight young woman competed in the Miss South Coast Scholarship Pageant, a qualifier for the Miss Massachusetts Pageant, and eventually the Miss America Pageant. Besides Miss South Coast, contestants sought the title of Miss Fall River.

Contestants competed in several rounds of competitions, including talent, onstage question, evening gown and lifestyle and fitness.

Eileen Costa, the executive director of the Miss Fall River Scholarship Organization, said the winners received $500 scholarships from her group. First runner-ups earned $75 scholarships.

Costa said the organization chose the Music Hall as a venue to attract more participants from the tri-town and raise awareness for the pageant.

“We wanted to host the pageant in an area where we don’t see too many contestants,” Costa said.

The show also featured a competition for the crown of Miss Bristol County’s Outstanding Teen. That event featured four contestants, aged 13 to 17. The Outstanding Teen competition allows younger contestants to familiarize themselves with the Miss pageants.

The winner of that pageant earned a $250 scholarship.
