Jillian Zucco's quest for Miss America ends

Sep 11, 2017

Jillian Zucco, Mattapoisett native and reigning Miss Massachusetts, ended her journey to Miss America on Sunday night.

The semi-finals and finals were aired live on ABC on Sunday after a weekend of preliminary competitions. The top 15 contestants of the 51 total were given the chance to compete live. Zucco sang for her talent, but was not one of the top 15 finalists.

However, Zucco was featured in a segment during the live show in which she described singing a World War II ballad at a retirement home, and a man who had been mute and catatonic began singing along to his wife.

Additionally, Zucco won $5,000 for a STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) scholarship that she plans to use toward her master's in nursing.
