Kids and a kid: Mattapoisett Library hosts petting zoo

Jul 30, 2021

MATTAPOISETT — It’s always fun to meet new friends, and there were a lot of them at the Mattapoisett Free Public Library on July 30.

The library hosted a petting zoo, where dozens of kids came to meet bunnies, chickens, chicks, a goat and a pig named Penelope.

Of the animals at the library, the chicks were exceedingly popular. They were Leo Kearns’ favorites.

His sister Natalie said her favorite was “the goat.”

The library held four 30-minute sessions, each with room for 20 kids. Children’s librarian and Assistant Director Chris Matos said the sessions were all booked within 24 hours.

She said there were a few no-shows at the sessions, but there was plenty of love to go around for the animals.

Funding for the event was provided by grants from the Mass Cultural Council.
