Kids get the royal treatment at Princess Tea Party

Feb 8, 2016

“Aurora is my most favorite princess ever,” said 6-year-old Chase Rensey at the Marion Art Center’s Princess Tea Party on Feb. 6. Held to promote the upcoming spring sessions of the MAC’s Little People’s Theater and Young People’s Theater, participants of all ages were encouraged to dress up as their favorite princess (or prince) to enjoy tea and entertainment on the center’s stage.

“Drinking tea with your pinky up is very important at a tea party,” said 6-year-old Victoria Beakes. “It’s how real princesses do it.”

Unfortunately, the “real” princess, Kate Middleton, was unable to attend the event, but princesses Anna and Elsa from the movie “Frozen,” as well as Belle from “Beauty and The Beast,” made an appearance. Jillian Zucco, winner of the Miss Southcoast Pageant and first runner-up at the Miss Massachusetts Pageant, entertained guests by singing “Colors of the Wind” from “Pocahontas.”

“Getting your children involved in the arts is so valuable and important,” Zucco said in an opening speech. “Your kids will learn so many life skills like self-confidence, public speaking, better social skills and so much more. Allowing your child to express their creativity is the best thing you can do for them and they will thank you later.”

Zucco, who is working towards the Miss Massachusetts title, promoted pageantry for young girls, saying that competing will teach them to be the best they can be and will earn them scholarships along the way.

After Zucco’s musical performance, Princess Belle performed a dance number to “Be Our Guest.” Princess Anna showed off her tap dancing skills to “Do You Want To Build A Snowman”  to promote the tap dancing class at the MAC. And Princess Elsa sang “Let It Go” along with the audience. Everyone was then invited on the stage for a dance party with the princesses.

“The princesses were so pretty, and one day I want to be able to sing like them,” said 6-year-old Genny Herbert, who was dressed up as Anna from “Frozen.”

Following the dance party, craft supplies were passed out to participants for making Olaf puppets (a talking snowman character from the movie “Frozen”) while the three princesses made their way around the room with face paints.
