Kurt Petersen, 76
Kurt N. Petersen, 76, died Monday, Oct. 26 in Portland, Maine after a brief illness. He was born April 10, 1939, in New Bedford, the son of Viggo and Dorothy (Tripp) Petersen.
Kurt grew up in Marion and attended local schools. He attended the Lowell Technical Institute in Lowell, where he met his wife Suzanne. Kurt enjoyed a career as a systems analyst for General Electric and Lockheed Martin. He was a long time member of the Holy Name Choir. He had a passion for making rosaries that were donated to missions around the world in addition to making one for every family member. He also loved the game of cribbage and backgammon. Kurt will be remembered for his dry witty sense of humor and never sweating the small stuff.
In addition to his parents Kurt was predeceased by his loving wife of 24 years Suzanne (Marchand) Petersen. He is survived by his daughters, Kimberly Petersen of Jay, Maine Kristen Petersen of Standish, Maine and Kara Pelletier and her husband Michael of Houlton, Maine; grandchildren, Gregory M. Spencer, Erika Sue Singsong, and her husband Oscar, Anthony M. Collora, and Sebastian S. Pelletier; great grandson, Emery S. Singsong; and extended family, Denis Marchand and family, Elizabeth and Russ Therrien and family, Diane and David Brooks and family, Betsy Grassi and family, Arnold Carr and family, Sandy George and family, and dear friends Gerard Saucier, Denise Knight and Cathy Brown.
A memorial Mass was celebrated Nov. 7. Burial followed at the Jacksonville Cemetery, East Machias, Maine. Those wishing to remember Kurt may make donations in his name to the American Cancer Society, One Bowdoin Mill Island, Suite, 300, Topsham, Maine 04086.
