The Sippican Historical Society, known in part for its historical preservation efforts, will host a lecture on March 26 about a historic building preservation effort in Dartmouth.

Diane Gilbert, the president and treasurer of the Dartmouth Heritage Preservation Trust and current member of the Dartmouth Historical Commission, will give the talk about Dartmouth’s effort to preserve the Elihu Akin House.

The 7 p.m. Marion Music Hall lecture will touch on the home’s history, why it is called “the little house with a big story to tell,” and how the community rallied around the home to save it.

In November 2018, Preservation Massachusetts awarded Gilbert the K. Julie McCarthy Community Spirit Award for her work.

There is no charge for this event, though donations to the Sippican Historical Society are welcome. Light refreshments will be served.
