Library hosts yard sale of its own
Amid the numerous yard sales and lemonade stands around town the Mattapoisett Free Public library had its own thrift sale with stacks of books, clothing, appliances and knick knacks for everyone. It was the first event of its kind for the library, with proceeds benefiting the young adult department.
“Things went well,” said Elizabeth Sherry, adult services and reference librarian. “We’re trying to get better furniture and more materials.”
Also at the library was the Junior Friends of the Library selling dog treats and hosting an array of yard games. The Junior Friends often hold charitable events and drives, teaming up with Gifts to Give or even obtaining a movie license for the library to show films and host movie nights with popcorn. Proceeds from the dog treats went to the Dartmouth animal shelter.
Linda Burke, children’s librarian, said the Junior Friends has 25 active members.
“The kids set up and do everything,” she said. “We had bubbles, bowling, and lemon roll, for starters. The kids are in charge.”
The Junior Friends will be holding a bottle and can drive July 30.
