Long-time Rochester building commissioner to retire

Jan 24, 2022

ROCHESTER _ The town’s Building Commissioner, James Buckles, will retire in April after 38 years of working for the town.

He notified the Select board on Jan. 24 that his last day will be on April 15.

Select Board member Woody Hartley asked that the acceptance of the letter also include an “acknowledgement of what a great job [Buckles] has done serving the town for so many years.”

The news did not come as a surprise to the Select Board, who discussed the retirement at its Jan. 24 meeting.

Hartley said that board members had been aware that Buckles intended to retire, and had mentioned a few things about the position that he thought the town might want to change.

He asked that the board discuss the Building Commissioner job description at its next meeting.
