Marion Art Center offers new membership category

Aug 8, 2020

MARION — The Art Center is accepting entries, resuming a watercolor class and encouraging students to join as art center members using a new membership category.

It has a new student membership, for ages 14 to 22, at just $25 a year. Visit marionartcenter.org/join to find out more.

The art center continues its fundraising efforts with its current membership drive. As a nonprofit organization, the art center depends on members and donors to sustain it through a year of limited programs and events. The Marion Art Center is offering a special 15-month membership to those who join or renew in 2020.

Current art center members are encouraged to submit two works of art for exhibition in the Summer Members’ show. All art must be original and prepared for installation. The show will run Aug. 21 to Sept. 26.

Drop off dates for artwork are scheduled on Saturday, Aug. 15 and Tuesday, Aug. 18 by appointment only. Members must download and fill out the artist consignment agreement at visit marionartcenter.org/on-exhibit to participate.

The Marion Art Center has resumed its previously postponed watercolor course with instructor Jay Ryan outside on the lawn on Thursday mornings. Instructor Catherine Carter will lead a five-week course, Botanical Drawing for Adults, on Tuesday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. from Sept. 8 to Oct. 6. In this class for beginners or intermediate artists, students will use colored pencils to explore the complex shapes and intricate surfaces of botanical subject matter, with a focus on
value, color, and composition.

The cost is $145 for members and $165 for nonmembers, including a $10 materials fee. Students must wear a mask while inside the building. The number of students will be limited to allow adequate physical space in compliance with Massachusetts safety guidelines.
