Marion Art Center photography exhibit begins April. 22

Apr 15, 2016

The Marion Art Center, 80 Pleasant St., will hold a photography exhibition with artists Bryan McSweeny, Kent McCormack, Donna Lee Tufts and Laurie Bullard from April 22 to May 28.

Bryan McSweeny is a travel photographer based in Marion who concentrates on the area around his home, including the architecture of the region, the landscapes of New England and the people found there. Being an avid sailor, he makes the ocean a frequent theme, bringing weather and clouds into play along with the occasional storm.

Kent McCormack, a Mattapoisett native, has been photographing people and places in New England for more than 20 years. While studying culinary arts at Newbury College in Boston he started taking night courses in photography on Cape Cod. He currently runs a wedding and portrait business.

Donna Lee Tufts, a Marion native, is a professional interior designer and photographer who began taking digital photos in 2013 when she moved to Aucoot Avenue in Marion. She uses her Canon SureShot for the wildlife, flowers and close-ups of the patterns and textures in nature.

Of her photography, Tufts says: "It not only gives me pleasure in sharing the awesome handiwork of our Creator, but also gives me contentment and peace."

Laurie Bullard began taking pictures at an early age and focuses on black and white photography. She bought her first digital camera in 2006 and is mostly self-taught. She works strictly with natural light, preferring to photograph out of doors subjects, and she does not manipulate her work in any way.

A reception honoring the artists will be held on Friday, April 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. The gallery opening is free and open to the public.

The photography show runs until May 28. The gallery is open to the public and there is no admission. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
