Marion asks residents to write the state on wastewater project

Mar 23, 2020

MARION — In a notice sent to residents on March 23, the town said if Marion residents want financial assistance from the state on a $7.6 million sewer project, the time to act is now.

The notice said that the state is considering an environmental bond bill that would give Marion funds to line its primary sewage lagoon, a project that the Environmental Protection Agency and Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection are requiring. The notice asked town residents, including children, to write the governor asking him to pass the measure.

The town said that the requests would likely add about $500,000 a year for the next three years, for a total of $2 million.

The town has provided key points for letters on its website, but asks that residents write in their own words and not use a form letter.

“Many of you wrote letters in the Spring of 2019, which were instrumental in getting us to this point,” the town wrote, adding that “letters from children can and will make a difference. This would be a great civic project for school children.”
