Tobey Hospital welcomed its first baby of the New Year, Sophia Faith Crippin, at 3:57 p.m. on Sunday.

Weighing 8 pounds, 13 ounces, and 20.5 inches long, Sophia was born to Kristin Leigh Crippin and Derek Crippin of Marion.

Sophia is the couple’s first child.

Derek is a cook at Sippican Health Care in Marion and Kristin is a pre-school teacher in Rochester.

Sophia was just one of three New Year’s babies born in the South Coast region. The first one, a boy, arrived at 1:11 a.m. at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River.

Another boy arrived at 9 a.m. at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford.

Sophia received a gift basket filled with baby toys and clothes, as well as a $100 dollar savings bond donated by the St. Luke’s & Charlton Auxiliaries and the Tobey Hospital Guild.
