MARION —  The Marion Garden Group has been planting and tending window boxes, planters and urns throughout Marion Village for many years, in an effort to beautify the village.

Building on that mission, Liz Hatch, Marion Garden Group Vice President and the inspiration behind the beautification efforts, and a dedicated group of volunteers have made great strides in planting and tending new island gardens. The group has also installed ten new self-watering planters throughout Marion.

“I was inspired by the efforts communities such as Tiverton Rhode Island and Osterville and Chatham have made to beautify the road islands and entrance areas. What a difference it made to their towns,” Hatch said.  

One of the major initiatives last year installing a new “Welcome to Marion” sign on the corner of Route 6 and Front Street, which greets newcomers and residents alike.

The second annual gala fundraiser will be held at Hatch’s home in Marion on July 18 from 4 to 7 p.m. Wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served. Tickets are $40, though additional donations will be gladly accepted.
