Marion Concert Band's Aug. 31, season finale to offer 'Boston Pops-style' performance

Marion Concert Band will conclude its 2018 summer season with a concert in the style of the Boston Pops Orchestra at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug 31, at the Robert O. Broomhead Bandstand on Island Wharf, located off Front Street.

The featured soloist will be trumpeter Mary St. Laurent-Sheehan. She currently performs with Narragansett Bay Symphony, Tri-County Symphonic Band, Marion Concert Band, and  Band of America's Few. St. Laurent-Sheehan is an alumnus of the Greater Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra, and a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, where she performed with the Parris Island Marine Band.

The program, which includes pieces by former Pops arranger Leroy Anderson and former Pops conductor John Williams, is as follows: Montmartre March by H. Wood, Morning, Noon and Night in Vienna by F. von Suppé, Strike Up the Band by G. Gershwin, Belle of the Ball by L. Anderson, A Trumpeter’s Lullaby by L. Anderson; , John Williams:  Evening at Pops, arrangement by arr. J. Higgins, The Waltzing Cat by L. Anderson, American Salute by M. Gould, Clarinet Escapade by  R. Ward, Mancini! by H. Mancini, Young Person’s Guide to John Williams, arrangement by J. Bocook, and Stars and Stripes Forever by J. P. Sousa.
