Marion Council on Aging offers limited in-person programs again

Jul 6, 2020

MARION — The Council on Aging will look to re-start some of its fitness programs outside and in a socially distanced manner in July, and has started a gardening and giveaway initiative to cautiously return from social distancing.

Meditation will be offered via Zoom. Call the Council on Aging for the Zoom link, or to learn about other exercise programs and how they will be offered. The town organization is also offering weights in canvas tote bags to help seniors stay healthy at home or in virtual classes.

Karen Gregory and her staff at the Council on Aging have been working to bring seniors and younger community members together through computer workshops and gardening. While the full program is on hold, seniors can stop by new raised beds outside the Community Center to help weed and maintain them, or call the Community Center to reserve a space in an open bed.

Sheryl Faye will present a program on Amelia Earhart and her role as a pioneer in aviation through the Council on Aging. The program will be broadcast from Marion’s public service YouTube channel on July 15 at 7 p.m.

The Council on Aging will hold a Drive in Day on July 27 to allow seniors to say “hello” and pick up some ice cream from noon to 2 p.m.

The Community Center will host a dental hygienist on July 21 and a podiatrist on Aug. 7. For dental appointments call call Holly Petruzzo at 774-766-7238. For a podiatry appointment call the COA at 508-748-3570.
