Marion Fire starts Fire Prevention Week with open house
The Marion Fire Department parked the trucks out front and opened its doors on Oct. 11 to kick off National Fire Prevention Week.
Kids scrambled over fire trucks and ambulances after a breakfast that featured an appearance from Sparky the Fire Dog.
Will Fortier of Marion donned a breathing apparatus and fire helmet before he got behind the wheel of one fire truck.
“I’m ready to roll out!” he said.
Fire Chief Brian Jackvony said the department received an enthusiastic response from the public.
“It’s been a beautiful day and this is our way of giving back to the community and show them what we do,” said Jackvony.
Throughout the day demonstrations were given on fire safety and on some of the department’s gear. Behind the station, firefighters and EMTs dismantled a car with the Jaws of Life to show how victims could be freed following an accident.
