Marion Firefighters mix fun with safety tips at Open House

Oct 13, 2018

MARION — The Marion Fire Department held their Fire Prevention Open House on Friday night, giving kids the chance to mix fun activities such as face painting and treats like cotton candy with fire safety and prevention tips.

“It’s public outreach, we want to make sure that everyone knows its fire safety week and give some fire prevention tips to improve safety for the community” said Fire Chief Brian Jackvony.

“It’s also a chance for people to meet the firefighters — especially children, so they are not scared of us,” said the Chief, adding that he was pleased at the turnout of the event.

The Oct. 12 event did not have a live fire display, and instead had a fire safety house at the fire station. The house is a portable trailer that mimics the setup of an actual home and allows firefighters to teach children fire safety skills, such as how to dial 911.

Fire station icon Sparky the dog made an appearance at the event as well.
