Oct 19, 2018

MARION — On Tuesday, Oct. 23rd, the Marion Institute’s Connector Series will host an event with UMass Dartmouth, featuring the co-founders of the organization S.A.F.E. Kenya.

S.A.F.E. Kenya uses the performing arts and community programs to educate, inspire and deliver social change across Africa. The group addresses current issues such as HIV/AIDS, female genital mutilation, access to clean water, reforestation of tribal lands, extremism and violence against women.

Their creative, culturally-relevant and highly effective programming is helping to change behaviors and societal “norms” as they identify priority issues and work with communities to develop solutions in a way that respects tradition while embracing and advocating for progress and inclusion.

The evening’s presentation will feature founder and Executive Director Nick Reding and co-founder and Project Manager Amos Leuka. Together they will present a glimpse into the societal and cultural role their organization has played and speak about current and future initiatives.

Following the presentation the audience can connect and engage with the pair. The event will take place from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Claire T. Carney Library Grand Reading Room at UMass Dartmouth

A $5 donation is requested for general admission. Pre-registration is suggested as space is limited.
