Selectmen approved the transfer of a liquor license held by the former owners of Marion Country Package Store to Marion resident Mike Riley, who now owns and operates the store.

Board members approved the transfer unanimously last week in addition to granting a change of manager request. The new manager is Sonia Riley, Mike’s wife, who had been purchasing merchandise for a package store the couple operates in New Bedford.

Sonia noted that 10 out of 15 employees completed a state course that trained them to serve safely, and recognize minors attempting to purchase alcohol.

Sonia said there are no plans to alter the building, located at 311 Wareham Road. Rose and Vicki’s Pizza, found in the same building on the site, plan to remain as tenants, she said.

Chair Jody Dickerson vouched for the Riley’s who he met as head of the Recreation Department.

“I’ve known the Riley’s for a period of time,” he said. “I think they’ll do quite well and run a great business.”
