Marion looking into public transportation
The Marion Affordable Housing Trust got the Selectmen’s support to look into the logistics of getting a public transportation stop in town.
Jennifer Watson, from the trust, presented the idea to the board on Tuesday night.
“There are stops in Wareham and in Mattapoisett, but not here,” she said.
She added that people are looking for a way to get out and around for appointments, grocery shopping and other errands.
Watson proposed, and the board agreed, that the next step should be looking into the Southeastern Regional Transit Authority to figure out how getting a stop would work and how much it would cost.
Based on conversations with Town Accountant Judy Mooney, it is estimated that Mattapoisett spends about $788 a month to have a SRTA bus stop.
The board was in full agreement of the idea.
“It’s a good thing, and it’s needed,” Selectman Steve Gonsalves said.
