Sixty-eight municipalities across the Commonwealth, including Marion and Mattapoisett, received $5 million in state grant funding “to upgrade and improve their information and technology systems,” according to a press release from the Massachusetts Office of Administration and Finance.

This funding comes from the state’s Community Compact grant program, according to the press release.

“The Community Compact program is an important tool for our administration to partner with cities and towns to advance best practices and meet the IT needs of the state’s 351 cities and towns,” said Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey. “These technology grants … will help municipalities modernize their systems and better serve the people of Massachusetts.”

Marion received $135,000 for the “implementation of a records management system” and Mattapoisett received $132,479 for “disaster recovery enhancements,” according to Massachusetts grant data.

“The Community Compact IT grant program is one example of how our administration is using its capital budget to support municipalities,” said Massachusetts Secretary of Administration and Finance Matthew Gorzkowicz. “The high-level of interest we saw in this program underscores the important work this funding will drive to ensure cities and towns can operate as efficiently as possible and be responsive to the needs of their residents.”
