The Marion Planning Board acted effectively

Jul 11, 2017

To the Editor:

In requiring that Patrick's Candy Pantry follow the process of obtaining a Site Plan Review and Special Permit, the Planning Board was performing its duties and responsibilities to apply the Town's Zoning Bylaws. The food sales changed the nature and intent of the business triggering the need for a special permit. And by the way, the Planning Board was not informed of the change of use by the Kellys; a concerned resident stepped forward.

Sometimes the rules are not popular, but the Planning Board must apply rules consistently and fairly for everyone. The process was a valuable learning experience for the Kelly family, and we are pleased that Patrick's Candy Pantry will soon be open for business.
