Marion resident named music director for Bay Colony Brass

MARION — Marion resident Philip Sanborn was recently appointed as the new Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Bay Colony Brass.

Based in Metrowest, Bay Colony Brass is comprised of 20 of the “finest brass and percussion instrumentalists in the greater Boston area,” according to a press release.

Sanborn, who is also the music director and principal conductor for the Tri-County Symphonic band, holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor where he studied with Abe Torchinsky, according to the Bay Colony Brass website.

As a trombonist and euphonium player, he has performed with the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra, Ocean State Lyric Opera Orchestra, Rhode Island Civic Chorale Orchestra and more. As a jazz trombonist, he has performed both internationally at the Montreux [Switzerland] Jazz Festival, and locally at the South Coast Jazz Orchestra and more.

Sanborn will make his debut with Bay Colony Brass in a Veteran’s Day concert on Saturday, Nov. 11th in West Newton. For more information, visit https://baycolonybrass.org/.
