Marion residents enjoy yoga at Taber Library
A handful of Marion residents enjoyed a sunny morning yoga routine on the Taber Library lawn on Thursday.
Kathy Bliss taught the yoga class, originally scheduled for Aug. 2 but moved to Aug. 4 because of rain.
This was Bliss’ first time teaching at the library, but she has 20 years of experience instructing yoga. Library Director Libby O’Neill invited Bliss to teach the class to bring the summer reading program’s theme of health and wellness to adults, not just kids.
Bliss specializes in the Kripalu style of yoga, which focuses on knowing and accepting your body.
During the beginner level class, Bliss emphasized the importance of meditating, breathing and being present.
“I call it the yoga of the sixties,” she said to the class.
She explained that an important aspect of Kripalu yoga is to not get too focused on the exact precision of every move.
As she reminded the class to focus on their breath, Bliss said, “Do what works for you.”
