Marion seeks volunteers for Cable Advisory Committee

With the town’s Internet and cable contracts set to expire in two years, Marion officials say now is the time for the town to weigh its options.

To do so, officials are seeking volunteers to join the town’s Cable Advisory Committee.

The committee is charged with negotiating the terms of the five-year contracts with both Verizon and Comcast.

Since the last round of successful discussions three years ago, Town Administrator Paul Dawson said the committee is now without any members.

“The committee did a great job last time and unfortunately the members have moved on,” Dawson said.

On Monday, Dawson informed the Selectmen of his intention to reform the committee with five to seven members. Dawson also requested that one of the Selectmen join the committee.

“As we all know this is a complicated process and an extremely important one,” Dawson said. “This is really going to take some time, but I think sooner rather than later is the time to approach this.”
