MARION — Richard Nighelli took over as police chief on Jan. 1, but Selectmen ratified his position at a Jan. 4 meeting. 

Nighelli said former Police Chief John Garcia, who retired on Dec. 11, was instrumental in preparing him to move up the ranks. 

“I feel like I’m ready to hit the ground running,” Nighelli said. 

Town Administrator Jay McGrail said that after his past two years working with Nighelli, he knew the new chief was the right fit. 

“I’m looking forward to 2021, and many more years,” Nighelli said.
