Marion Selectmen enter into energy-saving agreement
Hoping to reduce electricity rates for the town of Marion by 35 percent, the Selectmen have entered into an agreement with a consulting company to find the best resources for the town.
On Tuesday night, Town Administrator Paul Dawson suggested the Selectmen consider a three-year contract with Source One Energy Solutions, a company that would research where to find the most cost-effective electricity rates for the town.
"It's a very competitive industry out there," Dawson said. "I'm convinced we could do better."
Dawson has been meeting with Source One Energy Solutions over the past few weeks to discuss the agreement, which would cost the town an additional $3,500 on its electrical bills over the three-year period.
Over time, Dawson said the town is expected to save in between 25 to 35 percent on its bills.
"This is a very significant savings in electrical costs," Dawson said.
The Selectmen agreed, but added that the town would like to see quarterly reports of how the deal was progressing.
Dawson said he would continue negotiations with the company and report back to the Selectmen.
