Marion Senior Center schedules February events

MARION _ The Marion Council on Aging, located at the Benjamin D. Cushing Center at 465 Mill St., will sponsor a variety of events in February.

These include:

Valentine’s Day luncheon and matinee, noon, Feb. 14. After a lunch of chicken cacciatore, salad, Caprese garlic bread and dessert, the film “Moonstruck’’ will be shown. There will be limited seating and reservations are required. Call (508) 748-3570. Suggested donation is $5.

USSR-Russia: Myths, Mysteries and Spying, 1 p.m. Feb. 15. Henry M. Quinlan will discuss his 30 years of involvement with the former Soviet Union and Russia, including living in Moscow for five years during the collapse of the USSR and the rise of the new Russia.  Call (508) 748-3570 to register.

Paint Party with Lidia, 1 p.m. Feb. 22. Create an 11 x 14 inch canvas that can be taken home. All the necessary materials and guidance will be provided. The cost of the class is $20, which is due when registering.  Call (508) 748-3570 to register.

Vintage Car slideshow social, 1 p.m. Feb. 25. Take a ride down memory lane with John Wingle from Orphan Car Garage in Abington. He will highlight some of the most notable vehicles of the past, including the Rambler, Corsair, Studebaker and Vega. Sip a root beer float while watching the show.  Call (508) 748-3570 to register. 

Soup’s On: Every Friday, Karen and Mike prepare a hot soup to warm the body and soul. The February selections include: Pasta faglioli, Feb. 4; French onion, Feb. 11; smoky chicken corn chowder, Feb. 18 and borscht, Feb. 25. 

The center is home to the Marion Food Pantry, which is open from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and 10 a.m. to noon Thursdays and Saturdays. Deliveries are also available for home-bound residents by calling (508) 748-3570.

The pantry is set up like a grocery store so those visiting can select only items that are needed. Non-perishable food items and paper goods will be offered initially. Reusable bags are appreciated.
